Ingredients

  • 2 large Honey crisp apples

  • 1 box frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed

  • 1 1/3 cups granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 2 teaspoons apple pie spice, plus extra for sprinkling

Directions

  • Prepare the apples
Core the apples and slice them very thinly into half-moon shapes.
Bring a pot of water to a boil.
Add the apple slices and boil for 3 to 5 minutes, or until soft and bendable.
Drain and spread the slices on paper towels. Allow them to dry completely.
  • Prepare the pastry
Roll out the puff pastry into a rectangle approximately 10 x 14 inches.
Cut the pastry lengthwise into 6 equal strips.
  • Assemble the apple roses
Arrange the apple slices along one long edge of each pastry strip, placing them end to end and allowing the rounded tops of the apples to extend above the dough.
Roll each strip tightly from one end to the other to form a rose shape.
Pinch the end of the dough to seal.
  • Make the syrup
In a saucepan, combine the ½ cup water and 1⅓ cups sugar.
Bring to a boil and cook for 15 minutes without stirring.
Remove from heat and whisk in the butter and 2 teaspoons apple pie spice until smooth.
  • Prepare the muffin pan
Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C).
Grease a 6-cup muffin pan well.
Spoon 1 to 2 tablespoons of the syrup mixture into each muffin cup.
  • Bake
Sprinkle the apple roses lightly with additional apple pie spice.
Place each rose upside down into the prepared muffin pan.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and cooked through.
  • Serve
Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing.
Serve warm or at room temperature.
Tip: Brush the tops of the baked apple roses with any remaining syrup for an extra glossy finish. 🍎🌹
