Better Than Cici’s Bavarian Cream Pizza | Homemade Dessert Pizza Recipe

If you love the Bavarian Cream Pizza from Cici’s Pizza, you have to try this homemade version!

One of the affordable places we use to take the kids was the CiCi’s Pizza buffet on the weekends, they always had a decent salad bar, but the Bavarian Cream Dessert Pizza when it was available was a clear favorite. My husband and I were actually there a few weeks ago, and they did not have any of the dessert pizza available, so we decided to make our own. At first, we thought to just copy them with cheap vanilla pudding, but we took it up a notch with a hand rolled scratch dough, homemade vanilla cream filling, and all the buttery brown sugar streusel that we could fit.

The creamy vanilla custard pairs beautifully with the golden crust, while the streusel creates an irresistible bakery-style finish. This dessert pizza is easy to make, absolutely delicious, and guaranteed to impress family and friends.

Pizza Crust

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast

  • 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 2/3 cup warm water 110 degrees

  • 1 Tablespoon oil

  • Bavarian Cream Pudding
  • 1 cup milk

  • 2 egg yolks

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  • 1 teaspoons vanilla

  • 1 pinch salt

  • Streusel Topping
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 4 tablespoons softened butter

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • Powdered Sugar Drizzle
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar

  • 1-1 1/2 tablespoons milk

  • 1/4 teaspoons vanilla

Prepare the crust

  • Warm the water to 110°F. In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir and let stand for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the mixture becomes foamy and bubbly.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  • Add the oil to the bloomed yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  • Add the the yeast mixture to the dry mixture stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 to 6 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Make the Bavarian Cream
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and ¼ cup of the milk until smooth.
  • Pour the remaining milk into a saucepan and heat over medium heat until steaming but not boiling.
  • Slowly whisk in egg mixture into steaming milk.
  • Cook over low heat, whisking constantly, until thickened to a pudding-like consistency.
  • Remove from the heat and stir in the butter, vanilla extract, and pinch of salt until smooth.
  • Transfer to a bowl and allow to cool completely before using.
  • Prepare the Streusel Topping
  • Combine the flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, softened butter, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  • Using a fork or your fingertips, mix until the mixture forms small, irregular crumbs.
  • Do not overmix or the streusel will become a paste.
  • Assemble and Bake
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F
  • Roll out the risen dough into a lightly greased baking sheet or pizza pan.
  • Par-bake the crust for 5 minutes. The crust should be cooked but not browned. This helps prevent the Bavarian cream from soaking into the dough.
  • Remove the crust from the oven and spread the cooled Bavarian cream evenly over the surface.
  • Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the cream layer.
  • Return to the oven and bake for 8 to 11 minutes, or until the crust is lightly golden and the streusel is set.
  • Allow the dessert pizza to cool completely.
  • Make the White Drizzle
  • Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Drizzle over the cooled pizza.
  • Slice and serve.
